A Brief Summary

The History Department at Kingston University offers exciting opportunities for postgraduate level study, either via a taught-course History MA, or via research through an MPhil or MResearch.

The History MA can be followed either full-time (1 year) or part-time (2 years), and includes the opportunity to conduct research for a Dissertation project. We also strongly encourage our postgraduate students (whether taught-course or research) to attend our successful ‘Cultural Histories @ Kingston’ talks programme, where outside guests or Kingston staff deliver talks on history-related topics or engage in round-table debates.

If you wish to find out more or ask any questions, you can e-mail Dr. Steven Woodbridge, the MA Course Leader, at:

Some past postgraduate students have also been involved in our History Society.

The History Society is run by current university students and opens itself to all students (both undergrad and postgrad) who have an interest in History or related disciplines such as Politics, English Literature, Film, History of Art and Architecture, and the History of Ideas.

Aims

KUHS members at Surrey History Centre

The Society aims to provide a wide range of social and other activities during the academic year. Visits have included places of historical interest such as the Houses or Parliament, the Surrey History Centre and Hampton Court. Other events have included talks from Kingston university lecturers in addition to external guest speakers. We regularly hold social events such as the annual pub quiz and inter-society bowling, as we realise the benefits to having a socially engaging experience during your time at Kingston.

The History Society has been well attended by those who have a general interest in any aspect of history, not just those undertaking a History degree. All suggestions for new events and visits are gladly received to ensure that everyone’s interests are catered for. Postgraduate students are also especially welcome to become involved in the activities of the History Society.
